The United Nations Honours Archbishop Oscar Romero of El Salvador
The Irish Missionary Union and the Romero Centre in Dublin welcomes March 24th being declared a UN International Day in honour of Archbishop Romero whose commitment to justice and truth led to his death on the 24th of March, 1980.
March 24th 2011 celebrates for the first time the United Nations
“International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity for Victims”
Sr. Maureen O’Malley, President of the Irish Missionary Union said “The
truth that Archbishop Oscar Romero would repeat today is to invest in
people, their health, their education, their safety and all aspects that
lead to true human development”.
The life and ministry of Archbishop Romero is still prophetic today. Our
world and Our Church still needs to stands in solidarity with the poorest of
