International Symposium on Church Goods

 Symposium

The Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life (= CIVCSVA) promoted the first initiative in the year dedicated to “Consecrated Life”. It was an International Symposium on the ‘Management of Ecclesiastical Goods in Service of the Humanum and Mission of the Church”, held in the Antonianum Auditorium in Rome on March 8 and 9, 2014, divided into four sessions and the Conclusion.

The first session, moderated by Br. Sebastiano Paciolla, sub-secretary of CIVCSVA, opened with an address by the Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation, João Braz de Aviz; it was followed by the speech of Bishop José R. Carballo, Secretary of the CIVCSVA on the Administration and Management of Ecclesiastical Goods of both IVC and SVA at the Service of the Humanum and Mission in the Church. Ecclesiological Lines. Another speech was given by Archbishop Joseph Tobin, CSsR, on “The Charism and Goods of an Institute and Their Relationship with the LocalChurch”). After the break there were two more speeches. One was given by P. Yuji Sugawara, SJ, on “Ecclesiastical Goods and their Purpose in the Code of Canon Law “and Miroslav Konštanc Adam, OP, on “Charity, Justice, and Legality. The Goods of the Institutes and the State Order”. In the second session, moderated by Sr. Nicias Spezzati, sub-secretary of the CIVCSVA, Álvaro R. Echeverría delivered his speech on The Relationship between the Service of Authority and Service of Economos in the Management of the Goods of the Institute. This was followed by two communiqués by Fr. and Santiago Gonzalez Silva and Sr. Yvonne Reungoat. The Celebration of First Vespers, presided by Archbishop José R. Carballo, concluded the March 8 session.

Symposium ii

On March 9, the second and last day of the Symposium opened with a Eucharistic celebration, presided by Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, Prefect of the CIVCSVA in the Basilica of St. Anthony at the Lateran. The third session, chaired by Mr. Jean Paul Muller, began with the greeting of Cardinal Joseph Versaldi, President of the Prefecture for the Economic Affairs of the Holy See. It continued with the speech of Professor Stefano Zamagni on “The Economic  Behaviour in a Changing Society”.

The symposium ended with a panel discussion on ‘Towards a Prophetic, Solidarity, Commercial Economy, attended by Enrique Sánchez González, Prof. Marco Impagliazzo, Dr. Kerry Robinson, Don Alessandro Barban, Dr. Olga Maria Rodriguez Correa, and Dr. Marco Aquini. The third session, moderated by Br. Adolfo Nicolás Pachón, answered some “Quæstiones”. It ended with the speech of Archbishop José R. Carballo, OFM.
