Ann Widdecombe is joining Premier Christian Radio as a presenter throughout Lent
The former MP will be reading a series of reflections from her Lent book Sackcloth and Ashes, commencing on Ash Wednesday, 5 March and daily at 7-30am, Monday to Saturday, through to Easter Saturday, 19 April.
Announcing the new series of programmes, Premier’s CEO, Peter Kerridge, said he was delighted that Ann is joining the Premier team.
“In all our lives there are things we’ve either done, or not done, which cause us regret,” he said. “Ann will look at penance in all its forms; penance in history, in art, in literature and, of course, in the Bible. They’ll all be examined in an important and thoughtful meditation on the concepts of penance in 2014.”
Interviewed on Premier Christian Radio this week, Ann said that Jeremy Paxman and John Humphrys were the broadcasters she most admired when she was in politics. “But I think, these days, I’d be just as likely to nominate Aled Jones for ‘Songs of Praise,” she said.
Her favourite broadcaster was “the late, great, inimitable” Richard Dimbleby. “He really did something quite unique,” she told Premier.
