29 August 2010 – Twenty Second Sunday

Gospel : Luke 14 : 1 – 14 Year C Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees…. How often the Gospel notes Your Presence at a meal, Lord! Long before this, You had commenced Your apostolic activity with a wedding feast, and You ended it with the Paschal feast. Your enemies never refrain from mocking You: A glutton and a drunkard! (Lk.7:34). They do not want to understand Your message. During a meal, what is important is not the eating, but the being together. To share a meal is to express the joy of being reunited, it is to share friendship, life, ideas, projects, worries …. For You, Jesus, this is exactly the deep sense of Your meals. You want to tell of Your love for everyone. You want to bring everyone the Good News. Also, because You have come to save all humanity, You accept all invitations that come Your way, those of the poor or the rich, those of the sinners and those of the “Righteous”, those of Your friends and those of people who want to entrap You. In Your parables, You will often use the image of a meal to tell of the love of our Father in heaven for each of us: The Kingdom of heaven is like a wedding feast …. All are invited, the wicked and the good; the only condition required is the Wedding Garment: to accept Your love (Mt.22). And You chose a meal as a means of remaining with us. The Eucharist is the wonderful banquet to which You invite us. There, You unceasingly share with us Your Word and Your Bread. You tell us repeatedly of Your faithful love; You strengthen the bonds of our Covenant with You; You make us live with You, as children of God…. as brothers and sisters together….. The guests picked the places of honour …. From now on, if we really want to understand it, there is no longer ‘places to choose from’. There is only one place: the one You occupy and want to share with us: so that where I am, you may be also: in the heart of the Father! This is the eternal banquet announced, and commenced, by Your meals on earth...

The Pilgrims at the Threshold of the Eucharist

Posted by on Aug 26, 2010 in Congregation, NEWS | 0 comments

Inspired by St. Peter Julian Eymard, whose life is always on the go, may describe their journey as “pilgrims”, in search for lives’ meaning and purpose at the heart of the Eucharist. Nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ, the pilgrims had found invigorating strength and refreshing inspirations as they start their journey on the road of discipleship as hopeful Sacramentinos. This year, the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, had accepted four young and vibrant postulants, who have hailed from three major islands of the Philippines. Diverse and unique in many ways, yet, they have shared in one vision in the pursuit of their search of God and of expressing their humble desire to be of service to others amidst the signs of time in the history of human’s salvation. Let us have a glimpse of the pilgrims’ lives as they shared their thoughts and motivations that had inspired them as Sacramentinos in the making… Br. Reynante G. Del Rosario, 32 years old, from Archdiocese of Cagayan De Oro, finished B.S. Criminology and worked as Industrial Artist for quite a number of years. He was inspired by the charism and missions of the congregation around the globe. His desires to live a life in simplicity and to be part of mission in reaching people had motivated him to be a Sacramentino. He hopes that this initial stage of formation would truly help him to discern the will of God in his life. He believes that vocation is an invitation to serve God and to live a life according to His will. Br. Throy M. Fuentebella, 32 years old, from Archdiocese of Bacolod, graduated with a degree of B.S. in Business Administration and had also completed units in B.S. Secondary Education. As a career-oriented person, he worked as Accountant and Administrator for quite a number of years. His encounter with SSS Fathers and Brothers; inspired by the charism and his immense love for the Eucharist, had made him joined the Congregation. He defined vocation as the very heart of one’s existence in the light of God’s love with faithfulness and commitment in the service of others. Br. Tedley T. Villanueva, 23 years old, from Archdiocese of San Fernando, graduated with a degree of B.S. Interior Design and had worked as Freelance Interior Designer. Br. Tedley was greatly inspired by the simplicity of life of the founder and he also admired the charism of the Congregation. The relentless support of his family and friends from religious circle had inspired him to enter the seminary. He believes that vocation is a fiat to God; it is a way to imitate Christ and to be a shepherd of the flock. Br. Benedict M. Rosal, 22 years old, from the Diocese of Malolos, obtained a degree in B.S. Psychology and a Guidance Counselor by profession. He is also a violin instructor at Lyric School of Music. His experience as Knights of the Altar and his strong devotion to the Eucharist had awakened his desire to be a Sacramentino. Through the song, HANGAD, he felt an intense invitation from God. He believes that vocation is like a seed planted in the heart since we were borne and will grow in God’s perfect time. The Postulancy is the first stage of formation in the Congregation dubbed as “Come and See Program.” An initial stage of formation that will provide a gradual journey of integration in all areas of life. With profound gratitude and fervent spirit of joy, the pilgrims are all set to be taken, blessed, broken and shared, making the Eucharist as the center...

22 August 2010 – Twenty First Sunday

Gospel : Luke 13 : 22 – 30 Year C Making His way to Jerusalem St. Luke describes Your life for us as a long journey towards Jerusalem. It is from there that You will return to the Father, bringing with You all the people of God. I also am on my way to the new Jerusalem the new heaven, the new earth, where death will be no more (Apoc. 21), towards the Father’s house where You prepare a place for us (Jn.14:3). But do I focus on this? Is this the true goal of my life? Or do I not remain too much occupied with only my earthly worries? Through towns and villages Jesus went teaching. You, Lord, You are completely engrossed in the mission which the Father has entrusted to You. You return to Him, accomplishing the task He has assigned to You. You proclaim the Good News of His love to all You meet, in towns and villages. You tell all about the love of the Father, You invite them to welcome it, to respond to it…. And me? What about me? Is my life a call to others, an example which draws them towards You, the only Way which leads to the goal of life? Will there be only a few saved? You do not reply to this question…. And You lead the listeners back to the essential question : Try your best to enter by the narrow door! Do not waste your time in useless discussions, pursue your journey! The goal is put before everyone. Let everyone make the effort to follow You! Because it is not a convenient motorway that You lead us along, it is the rough pathway of love …. through the narrow door of the gift of self… Help me, Lord, to rid myself of all that encumbers me! Rid me of...

15 August 2010 – Assumption of Mary

Posted by on Aug 14, 2010 in Sunday Reflections | 0 comments

Gospel : Luke 1 : 39 – 56 Year C My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord! Mary, you know how to see, how to contemplate at length, the work of God, all He has done in you and in the world …. You invite Elizabeth to share your admiration and your praise. Come, let us also follow you. Give us your vision of faith in order to discover the wonders which the Lord continues to do for His Church, for all humanity …. for each one of us …. Fill our hearts with sentiments of thanksgiving and praise. He has looked upon His humble servant …. Nothing obscured God’s sight of you, Mary. The Angel Gabriel had called you full of grace …. But this did not cause one trace of pride in you: You know that this wonder is not your work; It is the work of the Lord Who looked on you from the first moment, and afterwards, all the days of your life. You have always remained in your place as a humble servant. Our heart is far from being pure and simple like yours, Virgin Mary. But the Lord looks also on us, poor sinners. He looked on us sending us, through you, His Son. He came to free us from evil and to restore our life. Draw us into your thanksgiving … and your availability, Mary. He remembers His love and the promise made to our fathers. You share fully in the love of God for humanity. You make yourself available to Him to fulfil the promise made to our fathers, you accept being the woman whose offspring will crush the head of the serpent as the Creator had announced to our first parents (Gen.3:15). Your “Yes” Mary, permits the Son of God to take on our human nature to re-establish it in the covenant with God, to give it divine life. Help us, Mary, to say ‘yes’ to God, like you did, to accomplish ever more fully the promises made to Abraham and his seed: “In you all the nations of the world will be blessed!”...
